Rules and Conditions
Tournament Summary
Dates: Saturdays beginning July 27th 2019 through August 17th 2019 (four weeks)
Site: Laurel Park
Fees/Entries: $10 per entry/max of 2 entries per week, per person
All participants must be members of the MJC Player Rewards Program.
Format: $2 mythical Win/Place wagers on the final five live races at Laurel Park and two designated races from Saratoga, for a total of seven races.
Prize Pool: 100% of the entry fee goes toward the prize pool. The Maryland Jockey Club will seed $500 of prize money in the pot every week.
Weekly Prize distribution
- 1st- 65% of Prize Pool
- 2nd- 25% of Prize Pool
- 3rd- 10% of Prize Pool
Maryland Jockey Club Handicapping Series (MJCHS): Beat the Heat is part of the MJCHS. Every player that pays for an entry to Beat the Heat will be entered in the MJCHS at no additional cost. See the MJCHS page for complete rules and details.
Registration: Entry Forms will be at Guest Services counter at Laurel Park. Completed entry forms and full payment must be submitted at the Guest Services Counter prior to post time of the first contest race. Entries must be paid with Cash or player reward points.
Tie-Breakers: In the event of a tie, the participating members involved in the tie will split the corresponding prize money.
Late Scratch: If a player’s Top Selection is a late scratch, the player’s new top selection will be the post time favorite. If a players Top Selection is part of a coupled entry and the top selection scratches, the Top Selection would then be horse(s) remaining in the entry. Example: If a Participant’s Top Selection is 1a and the 1a is a gate scratch, his new top selection would be the 1 if that horse is still entered to run.
Eligibility:
All contestants must be at least 18 years of age to participate. Employees of the Maryland Jockey Club or its affiliates that have access to the Tote room and can affect the outcome of a race are not eligible to participate.
General Terms and Conditions:
The Maryland Jockey Club reserves the right to terminate, withdraw or modify the MJC Beat the Heat at any time without prior notice. In the event the tournament has to be terminated, all entry fees will be refunded in full.
All contestants agree to have their name or image appear in any publicity material and printed in any publication.
The Maryland Jockey Club makes no representations or warranties in respect of any prizes and accepts no liability arising in respect of such prizes. All prizes must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions.
The decision of Maryland Jockey Club officials in matters of disputes relating to the tournament is final.
Contestants are responsible for their share of federal, state and/or local taxes associated with any prizes won at the MJC Beat the Heat.
The Maryland Jockey Club reserves the right to disqualify any player it believes to be tampering with or attempting to tamper with the betting process and/or operation of the contest or any player it believes to be in violation of official rules or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike manner.
The Maryland Jockey Club is not responsible for lost, interrupted, incomplete, inaccurate or incorrect capture of betting information.
By participating, contestant agrees to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules.
By participating, the contestant agrees to release the Maryland Jockey Club and their partners, contractors and affiliates, and the directors, employees and agents of each, from any liability, loss or damage incurred by the use, misuse or acceptance of the prize.
