Six Virginia-Breds Dominate Saturday's Card

LAUREL, MD. 09-11-14—Six stakes races exclusively for Virginia-breds make up half of the card on Saturday’s 12-race program at Laurel Park. All six will be contested on the turf, weather permitting.

Colonial Downs’ ownership and horsemen could not reach agreement on holding a meeting this year so the Maryland Jockey Club agreed to help keep the Virginia stakes program intact.

Markakis Wins Wednesday Finale

LAUREL, MD. 09-10-14---Horacio Karamanos had to hold on for dear life as first time starter Markakis dragged him through traffic to win his initial lifetime start in today’s finale at Laurel Park.

Markakis completed the 5-1/2 furlong distance over the turf course in 1:04.31 and paid $28.40. Caboppo took second, a length and a quarter behind the winner.

Gary Capuano Saddles Two Winners On Opening Day Of Fall Meet

LAUREL, MD. 09-05-14---After a 12-week break, live racing returned to the major Maryland tracks with the opening of the Laurel Park fall meeting.

Gary Capuano saddled a pair of winners, taking the opener with Rumblin Kyle ($4.60) and the finale with Flyingtobechilders ($48.40), who nipped Drunken Love at the wire.

LAUREL, MD. 09-03-14---Live racing returns to the major Maryland tracks for the first-time since early June as the 65-day Laurel Park fall meeting begins Friday afternoon, Sept. 5. Opening day features free admission, complimentary programs and drawings for tickets to the Brew & Bourbon (Sept. 13) and Oktoberfest (Oct. 25) events. First post is 1:10 Eastern.

Ten Stakes Races Added To Laurel Park Fall Meet Schedule

LAUREL, MD. 08-12-14---The Maryland Jockey Club today announced 10 additional stakes have been added to the Laurel Park fall stakes schedule that was not finalized at the July racing commission meeting.

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association has inserted five Maryland-bred and/or Maryland-sired races into the mix.
