Laurel Park Cancels Friday Program

National Stronach 5 Wager Also Cancelled
Track to Remain Open for Simulcasting

LAUREL, MD – Ongoing work to fix a broken water pipe along the track apron has forced Laurel Park to cancel Friday’s live 10-race program.

Repairs to the pipe, located near the outer rail of the main track, took longer than expected and require an extra day to complete. Management is optimistic live racing will return with Saturday’s scheduled 10-race card.

Remains Open for Simulcasting

LAUREL, MD – Laurel Park has cancelled its 10-race program Thursday due to a broken water pipe along the apron.

Because the pipe is located near the outer rail of the main track, management has decided to call off today’s races.

Laurel remains open today for simulcasting and is optimistic it will resume its live program Friday afternoon. Friday’s first race post is 12:25 pm., with six of the 10 races are scheduled on Laurel’s world-class turf course.

Breeders' Cup Pre-Entries Feature Maryland Stakes Winners

36th Breeders’ Cup Championships Nov. 1 and 2 at Santa Anita

LAUREL, MD – Led by Preakness (G1) hero War of Will and record-setting filly Covfefe, several stakes winners in Maryland this year were among 188 horses pre-entered for the 36th Breeders’ Cup Nov. 1 and 2 at Santa Anita Downs.

Pre-entries for all 14 Breeders’ Cup races were due Monday and announced Wednesday.

LAUREL, MD - Laurel Park-based jockey Julio Correa, leading all apprentice riders in the country in wins, will be moving his tack to New York next month.

The 25-year-old native of Caguas, Puerto Rico guided Smart Angle’s 3-year-old filly Yesterdaysplan to a head victory over favored Esterina in the $50,000 Distaff Starter Handicap on Saturday for his first victory in Maryland Million competition.

Laurel Turf Stakes Winner Miss J McKay Headed to Breeders Cup

LAUREL, MD - The owners of Laurel Park stakes winner Miss J McKay, first to the wire in each of her three starts, will be pre-entered Wednesday in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1), to be run Friday, Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.

Trainer Cal Lynch said Sidney Karmia’s Maxis Stable, Sol Kumin’s Madaket Stable and Marc and Joe Lore of Wonder Stables decided to pay the six-figure fee to supplement Miss J McKay, who was not originally nominated to the Breeders’ Cup.

LAUREL, MD – Shirley Lojeski’s Forest Fire was the beneficiary of a dream trip under Paco Lopez in Saturday’s $150,000 Maryland Million Classic to collect his first stakes victory in the 1 1/8-mile stakes for Maryland-sired 3-year-olds and up.

The Classic was the feature on the 34th Jim McKay Maryland Million program that offered 11 stakes worth $1.02 million in purses.
