LAUREL, MD – Morgan’s Ford Farm, Linda Walls and Kingdom Bloodstock’s Pink Pearl forged a short lead after a half-mile and drew off to a 4 ¼-length upset of Sunday’s opener at Laurel Park to give jockey Victor Rosales his first career riding victory.

Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show Placed on Hiatus

LAUREL, MD – The Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show, which showcases retired Thoroughbreds in as many as 20 classes, has been placed on hiatus, the Maryland Jockey Club announced Sunday.

Maryland Jockey Club President and General Manager Sal Sinatra and Vice President of Racing Development, Georganne Hale, said they are looking at different times during the calendar year to hold the event in 2020 as well as different locations.

LAUREL, MD – Saturday’s Winter Carnival at Laurel Park, featuring the $250,000 Barbara Fritchie (G3) and $250,000 General George (G3), generated a total handle of $4.338 million, up 62 percent from last year with one less race.
    
Last year’s total handle on the day of the Winter Carnival was $2.668 million. In-state handle swelled 57.7 percent.

LAUREL, MD – Runnymede Racing LLC’s Alwaysmining won his fourth consecutive race and third consecutive stakes with a 4 1/4-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Miracle Wood presented by Blackwell Real Estate at Laurel Park.

A 3-year-old gelded son of Stay Thirsty, trained by Kelly Rubley and ridden by Daniel Centeno, Alwaysmining covered the mile in 1:35.27. Gray Magician, who shipped from California, finished second by a nose over Tybalt.

LAUREL, MD – With no winning tickets in Friday’s Stronach 5, the national pick 5 wager with an industry-low 12-percent takeout is expected to climb to more than $500,000 Friday, Feb. 22.

The carryover going into next Friday’s is $169,305.51.
