Six Virginia-Breds Dominate Saturday's Card

LAUREL, MD. 09-11-14—Six stakes races exclusively for Virginia-breds make up half of the card on Saturday’s 12-race program at Laurel Park. All six will be contested on the turf, weather permitting.

Colonial Downs’ ownership and horsemen could not reach agreement on holding a meeting this year so the Maryland Jockey Club agreed to help keep the Virginia stakes program intact.

Markakis Wins Wednesday Finale

LAUREL, MD. 09-10-14---Horacio Karamanos had to hold on for dear life as first time starter Markakis dragged him through traffic to win his initial lifetime start in today’s finale at Laurel Park.

Markakis completed the 5-1/2 furlong distance over the turf course in 1:04.31 and paid $28.40. Caboppo took second, a length and a quarter behind the winner.
