The Art of Pierre Bellocq Kicks off Events Friday, Oct. 2 
            
LAUREL, MD – The 30th running of the Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, to be contested at Laurel Park Saturday, Oct. 17, will highlight a of month of activities surrounding one of Maryland racing's biggest days of the year.
 
The Maryland Million, conceived in 1984 by television journalist McKay, is a program of races restricted to the offspring of Maryland-based stallions and will include the $150,000 Classic, $125,000 Ladies and $125,000 Turf.
 
Maryland Million month kicks off Friday, Oct. 2 with Peb: The Art of Pierre Bellocq. Peb’s art will be exhibited from 6-7 p.m. in the Hays-Heighe House’s galleries before an award presentation and conversation with Peb takes place in the Chesapeake Center Dining Room. The event will also be used to unveil Peb’s design for the program cover of the 30th anniversary of the Maryland Million.

The public has an incredible opportunity to run or walk through Laurel’s starting gate and backstretch Sunday, Oct. 11 in the Maryland Million 5K for Special Olympics Maryland. Participants will begin by running through the Laurel starting gate in front of the grandstand entrance, through the stable areas and across the finish line on the main track. Cost is $30 pre-registration and $35 the day of the race. Pre-registration is available by clicking here.
 
The Maryland Million Golf Tournament will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Manor Country Club, named one of Golf Magazine’s top renovated courses. The shotgun start (scramble format) begins at 1 p.m. Lunch will be available beginning at 11:30 a.m. and an awards dinner with open bar will take place between 5:30-7:30 p.m.
