July 4 Card Opens Four-Day Racing for Duration of Summer Meet
LAUREL, MD – Laurel Park will commemorate Independence Day with a special Thursday, July 4 holiday program featuring live racing and Red, White & Brews offering food and drink specials, prizes, and raffles to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.
Post time is 1:10 p.m. The July 4 card also kicks off a Thursday through Sunday schedule of live racing for the duration of Laurel’s 43-day summer meet, which concludes Sunday, Aug. 18.
From noon to 5 p.m. in the grandstand there will be $2 hot dogs and draft beer, $3 bottled beer and $5 double cheeseburgers, with ‘Merica Mules and snack specials also available.
Prizes and swag bags from local breweries will be raffled off, with all proceeds going to benefit the PDJF.
The PDJF is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides financial assistance to 60 former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries. Since its founding in 2006, the fund has disbursed nearly $9 million to permanently disabled jockeys, most of whom have sustained paralysis or brain injuries.
