LAUREL, MD. 11-24-11---After a visually impressive performance in the Maryland Million Nursery two starts back, Glib makes his second appearance at Laurel Park in the $75,000 Dave’s Friend Stakes on Saturday. The six-furlong test drew seven 2-year-olds.

8Glib, the 8-5 morning line favorite, was a 4-1/2 length winner of the Nursery for trainer Jerry Robb at odds of 5-1 off a maiden score at Charles Town in his debut. Earlier this month at Aqueduct, the son of Great Notion was bumped leaving the starting gate and was a well-beaten third as the betting choice in the Lord Henry Stakes.

“He is doing really well,” Robb said. “If you watch the replay of the race in New York, everyone got bothered except the winner. We came away dead last and had no chance to win. Hopefully he bounces back to the way he ran on Maryland Million day.”

Mario Pino will ride Glib.

Dane Kobiskie could start a pair of freshman runners: Oil Rig, who finished off the board as a 4-5 favorite in today’s seventh race, and Doe, a filly who was fourth in last Saturday’s Smart Halo Stakes. The entry is the 9-5 second choice on the morning line.

Oil Rig had been in the money in six of his previous seven races. The son of Henny Hughes was seventh in his only stakes try, the Laurel Futurity.

“It is not out of the question for him to come back Saturday,” said Kobiskie, who has 100 wins this year, including 54 at the major Maryland tracks. “We have been having success with quick turnarounds with some of our horses.”

Kobiskie, a former rider who is in his fourth year conditioning horses, has already scored with five runners during the current fall meeting that won with less than a week off between races (Live the Dash, Please Sir, Great Aztec, Big Boy Charlie and Hands On).

Doe has seven 1-2-3 finishes in 11 starts, including second place efforts in the Dover Stakes at Delaware Park and the Charles Town Juvenile against boys.

“I didn’t like the fact she was up front early last Saturday,” added Kobiskie. “She had a minor foot abscess and I didn’t get her sound until two days before the race. I almost scratched her and probably should have because this race isn’t as tough as the filly race last week (Smart Halo Stakes). She has had a hard campaign but is as game as can be.”

Alberto Delgado, who has ridden 18 of Kobiskie’s 25 winners at Laurel during the stand, is named to ride both Kobiskie horses.

Deliburnsky (5-2) was a six-length winner of the Jersey Juvenile, his most recent start. Pedro Cotto is the only rider he has known after two victories in four tries for trainer Tony Wilson.

Maiden winner Trippi’s Secret (10-1) and 20-1 longshots Field Artillery and Champ’s Metal, both from the John Salzman, Sr. barn, complete the field.
