BALTIMORE - Max Player is headed to the Preakness Stakes (G1), which as it currently stands will stamp him as the only horse to compete in all three legs of the Triple Crown — plus Saratoga’s Travers Stakes (G1).
 

Pneumatic Works Bullet for Preakness

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Pneumatic continued his preparation for the 145th Preakness Stakes (G1) on Oct. 3 with a five-furlong bullet work Monday morning in company in 1:00.85 over the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga.
 
“On this track that’s about as good as horses work,” said Scott Blasi, trainer Steve Asmussen’s top assistant.
 

Authentic to Carry Spendthrift's Silks in Preakness Stakes

LOUISVILLE - B. Wayne Hughes, whose Spendthrift Farm is majority owner in Authentic, wanted minority owner MyRacehorse’s black and white silks to be worn by jockey John Velazquez in the Kentucky Derby (G1). Authentic carried those colors into the history books as the winner of the only Kentucky Derby not held in the spring. A month later, Authentic will wear Spendthrift’s orange and purple silks in the first Preakness Stakes (G1) not held in the spring or summer.
 

Bonny South Heading East for Black-Eyed Susan

LOUSIVILLE – Trainer Brad Cox said Juddmonte Farms’ Bonny South was rerouted from the Kentucky Oaks (G1) once it was announced in mid-August that the $250,000, Black-Eyed Susan (G2) would be on the Preakness undercard.
 
“That was the spot that made the most sense, against 3-year-olds fillies, he said. 
 

Jesus' Team to Supplement to Preakness

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Grupo 7C Stable’s Jesus’ Team, third in the Jim Dandy (G2) and fourth in the Haskell (G1), will be supplemented to the 145th Preakness Stakes (G1), to be run Oct. 3 at legendary Pimlico Race Course.
 
The decision was made, said trainer Jose D’Angelo, after the 3-year-old son of Tapiture breezed a half-mile Saturday at Monmouth Park in :47.80.

LOUISVILLE - Bruce Lunsford’s Art Collector, who would have been co-second choice for the Kentucky Derby (G1) until a minor foot issue forced him out of the race, worked five-eighths of a mile at Churchill Downs in a strong 59.40 seconds - a time for the distance eclipsed Saturday only by Kentucky Derby winner Authentic’s 59.20.

LAUREL, MD – Teenaged jockey Charlie Marquez, the top apprentice and third-leading rider at Laurel Park’s summer meet, is moving his tack to New York under the tutelage of Hall of Fame rider Angel Cordero Jr.
