Maryland-bred Champions of 2015

Timonium, Md.— Alex and JoAnn Lieblong’s multiple Grade 1 stakes performer The Big Beast was named Maryland-bred Horse of the Year in the annual poll conducted by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. The son of Yes It’s True, bred by Ron and Carolyn Green’s Green Willow Farm, also took top honors as champion older male and champion sprinter.

LAUREL, MD – Kid Cruz, winless since taking the Dwyer Stakes (G3) at Belmont in July of 2014, drove three-wide down the stretch to win the $75,000 John B. Campbell Saturday at Laurel Park by a half-length over Souper Lucky.
 

Page McKenney Out of Campbell, Will Run Monday in General George (G3)

LAUREL, MD – Page McKenney, the 7-5 morning-line favorite in Saturday’s John B. Campbell Handicap, has been scratched and will now run in the $250,000 General George (G3) Monday, Feb. 15.
 
The Campbell is to be run today at 1 1/8 miles. The General George will be run at seven furlongs. The General George will mark the first time since March 7, 2013 that Page McKenney will run at less than a mile. He finished a distant second in a six-furlong $15,000 maiden claimer at Penn National.
