Ten Stakes Races Added To Laurel Park Fall Meet Schedule

LAUREL, MD. 08-12-14---The Maryland Jockey Club today announced 10 additional stakes have been added to the Laurel Park fall stakes schedule that was not finalized at the July racing commission meeting.

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association has inserted five Maryland-bred and/or Maryland-sired races into the mix.

Laurel Park Fall Meet Stakes Schedule Approved

LAUREL, MD. 07-15-14---The Maryland Jockey Club unveiled the 2014 Laurel Park fall schedule today after reaching agreement with the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association. The schedule was approved at the Maryland Racing Commission earlier this afternoon during its monthly meeting.

Breeders' Cup Classic Winning Trainer Dickie Small Passes

BALTIMORE, 04-05-14---Prominent Maryland trainer Richard (Dickie) Small, who conditioned 1994 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Concern, died late Friday night after a battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.

Laurel Park Trainer Title Ends In A Four-Way Tie, McCarthy Captures Winter Riding Championship

LAUREL, MD. 03-29-14---The Laurel Park winter meeting ended today with apprentice rider Trevor McCarthy winning the jockey title and four conditioners sharing the trainer championship. The 42-day stand began at the central Maryland track on January 1. Five live racing days were lost to inclement weather.

LAUREL, MD. 03-28-14---Lost in the hoopla surrounding the battle for the leading trainer at the Laurel Park was the performance by apprentice Trevor McCarthy, who will win his first riding title when the winter meet ends Saturday afternoon.

Vazquez Moves Into Tie For Top Spot In Trainer Standings

LAUREL, MD. 03-27-14---Juan Vazquez moved into a first place tie in the Laurel Park trainer standings with two live racing days remaining in the winter meeting. The 42-day stand ends Saturday afternoon.

Vazquez saddled Cochita Rich ($11.80) to victory in Thursday’s fourth race to tie Claudio Gonzalezfor the top spot. Both conditioners have 19 victories.

Leatherbury Turns 81, Eyes Fifth Straight Mister Diz Victory For Ben's Cat Next Weekend At Pimlico

LAUREL, MD. 03-26-14---Legendary trainer King Leatherbury, who turned 81 today, indicated that Ben’s Cat will make his 2014 debut at Pimlico Race Course next Saturday, April 5 in the Mister Diz Stakes. The son of Parker’s Storm Cat will be looking for his fifth consecutive victory in the Mister Diz and 20th career stakes victory.
