Karamanos Scores Tuesdays Turf Triple
LAUREL, MD. 11-08-11---Laurel Park carded three turf races this afternoon and Horacio Karamanos won all three of them.
The Argentine-born rider scored aboard Forever Diva in the fifth race, helping the 5-year-old mare leave the maiden ranks in her eighth lifetime start. Forever Diva paid $30.60 for trainer Elizabeth Merryman.
Karamanos rode Favored Lady, the betting favorite, in race seven. The Lion Hearted filly was winning for the second time for trainer Tim Tullock. Favored Lady paid $5.40.
Roadhog beat optional allowance runners and gave Merryman her second win of the afternoon. The Bowman’s Band gelding had not won a race since capturing the Alphabet Soup Handicap at Parx Racing last year. Today he paid $14.60.
“I was on some good horses today,” Karamanos said. “I just did my job. I am healthy, happy and working hard in the mornings with my agent Frank Douglas.”
Karamanos has 809 wins at Laurel and Pimlico Race Course since arriving in Maryland in 2002 but often went south (Florida or Argentina) for the winter. But with his daughter Milagros now in the 7th grade, the 38-year-old will be sticking around.
“We can’t be moving around anymore,” added Karamanos. “This is home. I will have some business this winter and think we can do pretty well.”
The three-win afternoon helped Karamanos move to within two wins of Julian Pimentel for the top spot in the jockey standings for the fall meeting, 32-30.
