LOUISVILLE— Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Authentic had his first major training session Saturday morning to prepare for the 145th Preakness Stakes (G1), working five-eighths of a mile in 59.20 seconds at Churchill Downs. Jockey Martin Garcia filled in for John Velazquez, who won his third Kentucky Derby while riding Authentic for the first time.

LAUREL, MD – There were no surprises in Friday’s Stronach 5, but lots of winners. In fact, there were 300 winning tickets each worth $294.50.
 
The Stronach 5 featured races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields with a $100,000 guaranteed pool and industry-low 12-percent takeout.
 

Mr. Big News Breezes for Oct. 3 Preakness

LOUISVILLE - Even though Kentucky Derby (G1) third-place finisher Mr. Big News earned a free roll in the 145th Preakness Stakes (G1) by virtue of winning Oaklawn Park’s $200,000 Oaklawn Stakes, owner Chester Thomas and trainer Bret Calhoun said that has no bearing on their decision to run in Pimlico’s famed 1 3/16-mile classic.

LAUREL, MD – Friday’s Stronach 5 will feature a $100,000 guaranteed pool, races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields, and four races on the turf.
 
The Stronach 5 will kick off at 3:40 p.m. with Laurel’s seventh race, a 5 ½ furlong event on the main track. The remaining four races will be contested over the turf. The Stronach 5 will also feature an industry-low 12-percent takeout.
