Rainbow 6, Super Hi-5 Carryovers for Sunday’s 11-Race Card
Doors Open 9:45 A.M. Sunday for Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Simulcast
LAUREL, MD – Jockey Feargal Lynch put an exclamation point on a spectacular day Saturday with four winners, three in stakes, two of them graded, during the ‘Class on the Grass’ program as part of Commonwealth Day at Laurel Park.
Lynch captured the $200,000 Commonwealth Derby (G3) aboard Maryland-bred Just Howard ($16.80) and the $150,000 Commonwealth Oaks (G3) with Rymska ($6.80), after taking the $60,000 Brookmeade aboard Queen Caroline ($5) and second-time starter Sue Me ($4.40) in the fourth race, a seven-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up.
“It’s a great day. Scott Silver, my agent, does a great job. Unfortunately, Trevor [McCarthy] is out at the moment but we’ve kept the show on the road. Scott does a great job for me,” Lynch said. “Graham Motion gives me a lot of opportunities to go to Fair Hill and help with the babies and I’ve been able to breeze Irish War Cry and be a big part of him this year. It’s been a great year, and a great day.
“It just all came together today,” he added. “I really liked my horse in the maiden. He stumbled first time so I knew he was live today and in the stakes you’ve just got to get a good trip. When you’re riding for Chad Brown and Graham Motion, they put their horses in the right spots and make you look good.”
A total of eight stakes, three graded, worth $850,000 in purses helped comprise the 12-race ‘Class on the Grass’ program. Other stakes winners were Projected in the $200,000 Baltimore-Washington International Turf Cup (G2), Special Envoy in the $60,000 Bert Allen, Lawyer Dave in the $60,000 Punch Line, Exaggerated in the $60,000 Oakley and Yes to the Dress in the $60,000 Jamestown.
There will be a jackpot carryover of $4,902.41 in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 for Sunday’s 11-race program after multiple tickets were sold with all six winners Saturday, each worth $797.76. A $1 Super Hi-5 carryover of $1,718.42 will be available in Sunday’s opener.
Laurel will open its doors at 9:45 a.m. Sunday for live simulcasting of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe from France’s Chantilly Racecourse. Coverage begins with the Arc in Race 4, which has a 10:05 a.m. post time, and continues through the De La Foret in Race 7 at 12:15 a.m.
