LAUREL, MD – Maryland’s leading rider Trevor McCarthy took off his final three mounts with a sore knee after being unseated following the fourth race Saturday at Laurel Park.

McCarthy’s agent, Scott Silver, was uncertain whether McCarthy would be able to ride on Sunday. Winner of both the Laurel winter-spring meet and Preakness Meet at Pimlico to start 2016, he is named in nine of 10 races.

“He’s a little sore. We’re just going to see how he is tomorrow,” Silver said. “We don’t really know anything yet. He’ll put ice on it tonight and we’ll see how he feels in the morning.”

McCarthy, 22, was unseated during the gallop out by 3-year-old filly Giddy Up ($8.20) after they rallied to beat Awake the Day in the 5 ½-furlong sprint on the All Along Turf Course, his second straight victory and third to start the day following wins in the first race with Outfielder ($4) and third with Tempietto ($6.60).

Giddy Up, a 3-year-old filly trained by Anthony Pecoraro for Roman Hill Farm LLC, suddenly altered course and dropped McCarthy into the path of Awake the Day and was hit on the right knee.

McCarthy was treated on the track by medical personnel and walked back to the jockeys’ room under his own power. Replaced in the fifth race and off in the sixth, he came back to finish off the board with J C’s Not Brown in Race 7 but was unable to ride mounts in the eighth, ninth and 10th.

“I guess his horse ducked out a little bit and when she did she switched her leads and he came off and got hit on his leg,” Silver said. “It’s nothing life-threatening or anything like that, just something we have to deal with.”

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Carryover Reaches $14,099

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved on Saturday, swelling the carryover jackpot to $14,099 for Sunday’s 10-race program.

First race post time is 1:25 p.m.

No one had all six winners in the popular multi-race wager, which returned $679.88 for tickets with five of six winners.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 covers Races 5-10 and includes a $45,000 optional claiming allowance at seven furlongs for 3-year-olds and up featuring Maryland-bred stakes winners Admirals War Chest and Stolen Love in Race 9.

Every Sunday during Laurel’s 24-day summer meet Laurel serves up brunch as well as a Kids Zone with pony rides, crafts, a petting zoo and guest speaker. Brunch is $22 for adults, $11 for kids under 12 and free for children under 6, with bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys available for another $12.

50-Cent Early Pick 5 Added to Wagering Menu

Starting with Saturday’s program, Laurel Park added a 50-cent early Pick 5 covering the first five live races to the daily wagering menu.

As with the late Pick 5, which covers the final five races of the day, the early Pick 5 features an industry-low 12 percent takeout. There is a mandatory payout of the early Pick 5 net wagering pool after the fifth race.

The Late Pick 5 will continue to offer a carryover into late Pick 5 on the next live racing program if there are no tickets with all five winners.

Notes: Jockey Victor Carrasco posted a riding triple aboard Uno Emayo ($38.60) in the seventh race, Moon Virginia ($16.20) in the ninth and Feisty Valentina ($4.40) in the 10th. Trainer Tim Keefe saddled two winners, Outfielder ($4) in the first and Coastal Sea ($18.20) in the fifth.
