Motherload Hipster Captures Maryland Million Distaff Starter HandicapLAUREL, MD. 10-06-12---Ronald H. Parker’s Motherload Hipster tracked the speed into the homestretch before being set down to win the $50,000 Jim McKay Maryland Million Distaff Starter Handicap at Laurel Park.

Jockey Matthew Rispoli was winning his second straight race on Million Day as the Todd Beattie trainee finished the one mile distance in 1:39.46, 1-1/4 lengths ahead of Franstein, with Lady Outflanker finishing a distant third.

“She really ran good today. She is a nice horse, but she has her problems. She has a lot of problems at the gate but once you get her going she’s easy to ride. She always tells me when she’s ready to kick in, so I just do my best to keep her in the right place and today she kicked in.”

Motherload Hipster has finished first or second in seven of her last eight starts.

“She likes a route of ground. I think she wants to run all day,” said Beattie. “She’s kind of getting it figured out.  She’s four but she has a three-year-olds mind. She used to have an extreme issue in the gate. She’s been scratched from there. We started using a blanket to keep her quiet in there. It’s a daily routine, working on that. We’ll take her back to Penn National and take a look at the book.”

Motherload Hipster, a Dance With Ravens filly, was the betting favorite and paid $4.40.
