Rainbow 6, Super Hi-5 Carryovers for Friday’s Twilight Program
LAUREL, MD – Colts Neck Stables homebred Pool Winner remained unbeaten this year and stretched his overall win streak to four races with a front-running victory in Sunday’s feature event at Laurel Park.
Ridden by Jevian Toledo for trainer Alan Goldberg, the 4-year-old gelded son of Broken Vow kept early challengers A P Elvis and Triple Burner at bay and dismissed a late bid from RockinnOn Bye to win the $55,000 open allowance by two lengths.
Favored at 3-5 in a field of seven, Pool Winner ($3.40) ran 5 ½ furlongs in 1:01.34 over a firm All Along Turf Course. RockinnOn Bye was second, followed by Triple Burner, multiple stakes winner Bold Thunder and Jack’s in the Deck.
“When I asked him, he just gave me everything he had,” Toledo said. “He was waiting for somebody and as soon as he felt another horse coming, he gave me more and more. He’s a nice horse.”
Co-highweight at 124 pounds, Pool Winner broke running from post 3 and led through brisk opening fractions of 22.37 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 44.31 for a half while racing near the inside.
Triple Burner, four-for-nine lifetime at Laurel, launched a bid on the outside after turning for home, but Pool Winner surged again in mid-stretch and had enough left to hold off a furious late charge from Jack’s in the Deck for his third win in as many tries over the Laurel surface.
“Alan got this horse right,” said Goldberg’s assistant Lou Careccio. “He’s very enthusiastic. The horse trains well, and [Goldberg] thought he’d do very well. The result is four wins in a row.”
A claim of foul against Pool Winner by Taylor Hole, jockey of runner-up RockinnOn Bye, for interference at the start was dismissed by the stewards.
Scratched from the Parx Derby (G3) last weekend to point for this spot, Pool Winner now has five wins and six seconds from 14 lifetime starts, having finished first or second in 12 consecutive races dating back to last March.
Rainbow 6, Super Hi-6 Carryovers for Friday’s Twilight Program
There will carryovers in both the 20-cent Rainbow 6 and $1 Super Hi-5 wagers when live racing resumes for Friday’s twilight program at Laurel Park.
First race post time is 3:40 p.m.
No one had all six winners in the Rainbow 6 Sunday, pushing the carryover jackpot to $2,932.73 for Friday. Tickets with four of six winners returned $25.76.
The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
There will also be a carryover of $8.28.17 in the Super Hi-5 for Friday’s opener.
Notes: Apprentice jockey Kevin Gomez had a pair of winners Sunday, with Because He Can ($3) in the second race and Stolen Love ($14.20) in the fifth.
