Six Stakes, Two Graded, Worth $950,000 on Winter Carnival Program
LAUREL, MD – There will be carryovers in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 and $1 Super Hi-5 for Saturday’s stakes-filled 11-race Winter Carnival program at Laurel Park.
Two horses were live to take down the Rainbow 6 heading into Friday’s ninth race finale, won by Cyndara ($10), growing the jackpot carryover to $3,384.63. Tickets with five of six winners were worth $81.48.
Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence covers Races 6-11 and includes five of the six stakes worth $950,000 in purses on the card, highlighted by the $300,000 Barbara Fritchie (G2) in Race 10 and $250,000 General George (G3) in Race 9.
Also on tap are the $100,000 John B. Campbell presented by Ourisman of Clarksville (Race 5), $100,000 Miracle Wood presented by B&B Commercial Interiors for 3-year-olds (Race 6), $100,000 Maryland Racing Media (Race 7), and $100,000 Wide Country presented by Fidelity First & Blackwell Real Estate (Race 8).
A carryover of $1,689.80 will be available in Saturday’s opener, a seven-furlong maiden event for fillies and mares 4 and older.
Notes: Jockey Jomar Torres posted a riding double Friday aboard Stakes On a Plane ($25.60) in the second race and Rare Candy ($6.80) in the fourth, while Sheldon Russell won twice with Island Queen ($5) in the third and Cyndara ($10) in the ninth. Rare Candy was the first of back-to-back winners for trainer Claudio Gonzalez, followed by She Be Fierce ($11) in the fifth.
