LAUREL, MD – The Stronach 5 continued to show a good return on investment Friday, with 51 winning tickets each worth $1,733.60.
Through four races no winner returned more than $7.40. The biggest payoff came in the last leg with a $22.60 winner.
Friday’s Stronach 5 featured races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields along with a $100,000 guaranteed pool and industry-low 12-percent takeout.
The Stronach 5 began with Laurel’s seventh race and 6-5 favorite Papagiorgio withstanding a game effort by runner-up Start With Yes and an objection to win the 1 1/16 mile event taken off the turf. Gulfstream’s ninth race, the second leg of the sequence, also produced a winning favorite in the 8-5 shot Mystical Moon. The only longshot in the sequence came in the last leg, and the second race at Golden Gate Fields, when Sugarseeker rallied to win her first race since September and return $22.60.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.
If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.
The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.
