Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Carryover $21,000
First Post 1:10 P.M. for Nine-Race St. Patrick’s Day Program
LAUREL, MD – Total handle on Laure Park’s Tesio Preview Day Saturday was up 18 percent over last year while in-state wagering was up 11.4 percent.
Total handle on the 11-race program was $3.866 million. Saturday’s program, which featured five stakes races, was highlighted by Alwaysmining winning the $100,000 Private Terms and Las Setas winning the $100,000 Beyond The Wire.
“We continue to see our races growing more popular with the wagering public,” said Maryland Jockey Club President and General Manager Sal Sinatra. “Our racing office put on a strong program today and we saw great support from horsemen throughout the country. Meanwhile, customers continue to come out to the facility and enjoy the renovations.
“We feel our racing program continues to grow stronger and we’re very much looking forward to the next several weeks with the return of turf racing and with our April 20 program featuring seven stakes, including four MATCH Series races, and the Tesio, which includes an automatic berth in the Preakness Stakes (G1), and Weber City, which provides an automatic berth in the Black-Eyed Susan (G2).”
Alwaysmining, a 3-year-old son of Stay Thirsty, has won five consecutive races and four consecutive stakes while Las Setas, a 3-year-old filly by Seville, has won three consecutive races and two consecutive stakes.
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Carryover $21,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved on a stakes-filled Saturday at Laurel Park, growing the carryover jackpot to $21,097.71 for Sunday’s nine-race program.
First race post time is 1:10 p.m.
A total of $12,174 was bet into the popular multi-race wager, which began with a carryover of $17,201.98 from Friday’s card. Multiple tickets with all six winners each return $93.12.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Sunday’s jackpot is the largest in Laurel’s Rainbow 6 since a $21,746 carryover following the Dec. 21, 2018 program. It was solved the following day for a payout of $31,286.30.
The Rainbow 6 spans races 4-9 Sunday and includes a pair of optional claiming allowances for fillies and mares. Race 5 is a $45,000 second-level event for older horses at about 1 1/16 miles topped by 5-2 program favorite Oxhilirating, while Race 8 is a $42,000 entry-level contest for 3-year-olds where entrymates Kaylasaurus and Kick It Deep are favored at 2-1 on the morning line.
