LAUREL, MD. 09-21-13---Eclipse Award-winning jockey Ramon Dominguez, who retired in June due to the severity of injuries sustained in a spill at Aqueduct in January, made a special appearance at Laurel Park Saturday afternoon.

Preliminary Test Came Up Negative To Suspected Case Of Equine Herpesvirus; Hold Order Still In Place On Barn 16 At Bowie Training Center

LAUREL, MD., 09-21-13---The preliminary test came up negative. There is no trace of the virus in Clonmeen Lass, the horse in question.

The test will be sent to Rusty Ford, the equine programs manager for the Kentucky State Veterinarian’s office for confirmation. We expect to know Tuesday evening, Sept. 24 or Wednesday morning, Sept. 25.

Maryland Jockey Club racing secretary Georganne Hale said the Hold Order remains in place until the situation has been rectified.

 

Hold Order Placed On Barn 16 At Bowie Training Center Due To Suspected Case Of Equine Herpesvirus

LAUREL, MD., 09-21-13---A suspected case of equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) has caused officials at the Maryland Jockey Club to place a Hold Order on Barn 16 at the Bowie Training Center as a precautionary measure. The Maryland Department of Agriculture is awaiting results of tests to determine if a horse stabled in the barn, who was euthanized this morning, was infected.

The Hold Order affects the barn that houses horses trained by Annette Eubanks, Bobby Lee Plummer and Patrick Magill.

Track Record Established On Opening Day Of Fall Meet

LAUREL, MD. 09-19-13---After a 14-week break, live racing returned to the major Maryland tracks with the opening of the Laurel Park fall meeting.

“It is good to be back home,” said Laurel Park-based trainer John Salzman, Sr. “It is a whole lot easier and much more relaxed racing here instead of shipping out of town.”

It is designed to enhance the breeding and ownership of Maryland-bred horses. Modeled on successful regional incentive programs, it expands the opportunities for Maryland-bred horses.
