Inaugural Oaklawn Invitational Winner to Get Free Berth in Preakness

BALTIMORE – The Maryland Jockey Club announced today that the winner of the inaugural running of the $300,000 Oaklawn Invitational Saturday, May 4 at Oaklawn Park will receive a free berth in the starting gate for the 144th Preakness Stakes (G1), the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown.

The 1 3/16th mile Preakness, to be run Saturday, May 18 at legendary Pimlico Race Course, will be one of 16 stakes – nine graded – worth $3.8 million that will be run Preakness weekend.

The national pick 5, with an industry-low 12-percent takeout, will kick off at 4:35 p.m. and will include three turf races.

Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show Placed on Hiatus

LAUREL, MD – The Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show, which showcases retired Thoroughbreds in as many as 20 classes, has been placed on hiatus, the Maryland Jockey Club announced Sunday.

Maryland Jockey Club President and General Manager Sal Sinatra and Vice President of Racing Development, Georganne Hale, said they are looking at different times during the calendar year to hold the event in 2020 as well as different locations.
