Laurel Cancels Thursday Program

Facility Remains Open for Simulcasting
 
LAUREL, MD – Due to the polar vortex moving across the eastern U.S. with dangerously cold temperatures and high wind gusts, Laurel Park announced today it has cancelled live racing for Thursday, Jan. 31.
 
Laurel will remain open Thursday for simulcast wagering.

LAUREL, MD – Jockey Weston Hamilton won his first race as an Eclipse Award champion Sunday at Laurel Park, guiding P & H Stables and C & B Stables’ Weekend Flyer to a 3 ½-length win in the fourth race.

Friday’s Stronach 5 Rewards 97 Bettors $1,314.90 Each

LAUREL, MD – Friday’s Stronach 5, the national pick 5 with an industry-low 12-percent takeout, rewarded 97 bettors across the country $1,314.90 each.
The shortest price winner came at Gulfstream Park in Uno Mas Modelo ($3.40) and the longest price occurred in the final leg at Golden Gate Fields in Classy Chasie ($22.60).

Stronach 5 Features Four Tracks, 55 Entries, $50,000 Guaranteed Pool

LAUREL, MD – Friday’s Stronach 5, featuring a $50,000 guaranteed pool and an industry-low 12-percent takeout, will crisscross the country with stops at Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields.
 
The five races drew 55 entries with a turf race at both Gulfstream and Santa Anita and 13 horses sprinting at Laurel Park.

Winter Weather Cancels Monday Holiday Program at Laurel

LAUREL, MD – The Maryland Jockey Club canceled Monday’s special nine-race Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday program at Laurel Park due to severe winter weather conditions.
 
Monday’s forecast called for sun with a high of 20 degrees and winds at 20 to 30 mph, gusting up to 40 mph, creating a wind chill factor well into sub-zero temperatures. A wind chill advisory was put into effect until 11 a.m.
