Trio of Jockeys Escape Serious Injury from Laurel Spill

Karamanos Returns to Ride on Saturday’s Stakes-Filled Program
McCarthy, Torres Off Mounts, Hopeful to Return Next Week

LAUREL, MD – Journeyman riders Horacio Karamanos, Trevor McCarthy and Jomar Torres each escaped serious injury following a three-horse spill in Friday’s sixth race at Laurel Park.

All three riders were taken to the hospital for evaluation and released later that night. Karamanos was at Laurel Saturday morning and was scheduled to ride Devine Mischief in the $100,000 What a Summer Stakes.

LAUREL, MD – No Guts No Glory Farm’s Anna’s Bandit, a three-time stakes winner in 2018, kicked off her 5-year-old season Thursday with a front-running five-length victory in the featured seventh race at Laurel Park.

With Xavier Perez up for breeder-trainer Jerry Robb, and narrowly favored at 2-1, Anna’s Bandit ($6.40) was timed in 1:20.28 for 5 ½ furlongs over a fast main track in the $47,000 third-level optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares 4 and up.

LAUREL, MD – There were 38 winners in Friday’s Stronach 5, each receiving $3,864.50.
 
The Stronach 5, a national Pick 5 with a $50,000 guaranteed pool and industry-low 12-percent takeout, started with Tiger Eyes ($11) winning the ninth race at Laurel Park and ended with the game Washington-bred Gray Gem ($10.20) winning the final leg at Golden Gate Fields.
 
There was $165,844 bet into the Stronach 5.
